Weston Family Psychology’s Philosophy And Approach To Healing

The greatest motivator for healing and achieving goals in psychotherapy is the positive bond and therapeutic relationship of trust between client and therapist. That’s why we strive to provide a warm and compassionate environment in which you can feel safe and comfortable discussing your challenges no matter how difficult or painful. Whatever you, your child, or your family is going through, we’ll provide a nonjudgmental healing experience that is evidenced-based, yet open, sincere, and even humorous at times.

One of the things that make our practice and approach so unique is the sheer range and diversity of the services we offer. Our specially trained team of psychotherapists can test and treat children, families, and adults for a range of challenges, including difficulties associated with OCD, anxiety-related disorders, depression, trauma, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other related mental health difficulties. We also provide a number of evaluations that test for developmental, cognitive, and neuro-educational challenges, especially in children and adolescents. The foundation of our approach to healing involves using evidence-based, research-driven treatment models that deliver results beyond mere symptom management.

Our goal at Weston Family Psychology is to create an experience that promotes self-discovery, openness, and personal growth. We want to provide you with an opportunity to explore your thought processes and fundamentally change how you act and feel. In sessions, we’ll explore the nature of what is causing you distress and then collaborate on setting goals and working toward creating the life you want for yourself. Unlike talk therapy alone, all of our treatment options are based upon scientific evidence that has proven the effectiveness of our methods.

Some Of The Tools We Utilize

A primary therapeutic intervention we specialize in is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps individuals re-evaluate themselves and replace old, negative thought patterns with more accurate perspectives. In the short-term CBT gives clients a “toolbox” or skill set to help them cope with distressing situations. In the long-term, it can help positively reshape a person’s worldview.

Additionally, our psychotherapists integrate other forms of CBT into our approach, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). All of these interventions are integral in changing how people think, feel, and behave.

Many of our clinicians already utilize mindfulness, meditation, and grounding strategies in their work. However, because some symptoms and issues transcend problematic thoughts and feelings, we want to make sure that we are targeting both the mind and body, which is why we also have a specialist trained in mindfulness, meditation, Yoga, and Somatic Therapy.

Meeting once a week is hardly enough time to accomplish all the work that needs to be done, so we want to provide you with skills and activities that you can use outside of the office to promote your own recovery. For instance, if you are a parent, we may use ERP to create “scripts” or social experiments that you can use to help your child. Or if you are suffering from depression, we can create action plans for recognizing cognitive distortions and managing your emotional and behavioral response to stressors.

And because we understand that life is hectic enough, we also offer flexible scheduling for both online and in-person therapy sessions, including some evening and weekend hours. If we do meet in person, all of our sessions respect social distancing protocols and require a mask. Similarly, our testing and evaluation process is conducted with a pane of plexiglass between the evaluator and participant.

Weston Family Psychology prides itself on showing adults, children, and their families how to achieve positive, sustainable change. Our ability to create a safe and nonjudgmental atmosphere combined with our expertise in treating a variety of conditions places us in a unique position to foster healing and growth. Our psychotherapists are continually training and keeping abreast of the latest research-based developments in psychotherapy to improve our ability to impact clients’ lives in a meaningful and sustainable way.
